Washington, DC

Trip Details:

  • Visited October 2018 for 4 days
  • I was in DC for a Food and Nutrition Conference so most of my days were spent at the convention center so I don’t have much tourism/sightseeing info

Flight & Hotel

  • Flew into Raegan airport- easily got into the city via metro from airport
  • Hotel: Hamilton Hotel – Booked on Expedia for ~$170 per night
  • Location we picked based on where the convention center was but not too far from the White House

Eats

  • LPQ– several locations around the city. AMAZING healthy, organic brunch and lunch food. Slightly expensive because it is trendy/healthy but highly recommend
  • Amsterdam Falafel– chipotle style falafel pita/bowl restaurant. Good for a quick casual bite to eat. Unlimited toppings.
  • Kramers café and bookstore– a bookstore that is also a bar and restaurant. Really cool and great food but menu is nothing super unique or special
  • PAUL- cute little café where you can great breakfast/lunch (pastries, quiches, etc.)
  • Thomas Sweet- voted best ice cream in DC. Little bit off the beaten path but sooooo good. Tons of flavors and HUGE portions that aren’t super expensive.
  • Baked and wired– voted best cupcakes in DC. Very, very good, tons of different flavors, but not the all-time best cupcake I have had. We were planning to go to Georgetown cupcake (use to be on the Food Network) but was recommended by many people that we go to Baked and Wired instead
  • Momofuku Milk Bar- Asian restaurant that also has an ice cream shop that is famous for their cereal milk flavored ice cream. Fun experience to be in the crowds, but overpriced and overrated
  • Other restaurants that were recommended that I didn’t have a chance to go to: Founding farmers, Farmers and distillers, Daikaya Ramen, Mandu, Alta Stada

Drinks

  • Did not get a chance to go out for drinks, but heard EATON is really cool- looked cool from the outside

Transportation

  • Used the metro to get from the airport to the hotel and back
  • Need to buy a refillable metro card (can’t just buy 1 ticket). Recommend filling it with as much money as you need for the whole trip since there is a small fee every time you refill
  • Otherwise used Uber but they also have the scooters around the city

To Do & See

  • National Geographic Museum- rotating exhibits so check when you are there. When we were there it was all about the titanic which was cool. It was a $12 entrance for students and all of the museums on the national mall are free

Workouts

  • SoulCycle – went to West End location with Kallie (follow her on Instagram)—It was AMAZING
  • Solidcore– mega reformer class. Small movement for strength, more of a low energy class (still very difficult but just much slower) but still loud music
