Berlin, Germany

Trip Details

  • Total time: 3 days (April 2016)
  • Weekend trip during study abroad

Itinerary

  • Day 1- Free walking tour and holocaust museum
  • Day 2- Olympic stadium and Jewish museum
  • Day 3- Tiergarten park, hanging out at city festivals for Labor Day

Hostel

  • East 7 Berlin Hostel
  • Location is a bit far from city center but it was nice to be in a quieter area of town
  • Lots of good restaurants nearby

Eats

  • Babel- near hostel (awesome middle eastern food) it is kind of a fast, dive place, not good for a long, sit-down meal
  • Antipodes- awesome brunch with really simple menu but really cute and delicious!
  • Yam Yam- Asian dinner place with good Bimbimbop
  • Factory girl- good scrambled egg bowls for brunch
  • I have not been but other recommended restaurants: transit, napoljonska, wurst 🙂 (a sausage stand)
  • For the most part, food is very reasonable priced in Berlin

To See

  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • East side gallery
  • Holocaust memorial
  • Brandenburg tor

To Do

  • Visit Olympic stadium (cool if you are interested, if not, not necessary)
  • Walk through tiergarten park if it is a nice day (great place for a picnic)
  • Reichstag Dome-Bundestag (parliament building)- need to book ahead of time online!! Because to buy tickets while you’re there could mean 2 hour lines
  • Jewish Museum

Transportation

  • The S-bahn and U-bahn will become your best friends! Get a map and take them everywhere (Berlin has an amazing public transit system!!)- this is also how I got from the airport to my hostel
  • I personally never bought a ticket and never got caught (I rode it several times a day all 3 days I was there)- but don’t blame me if you get caught!
